Day 30 – Trip Resuming

This strange “day” of the trip actually bridges 10 days of real life. On October 13, I drove south from Bellingham along a scenic route than runs down the coast and offers broad views of the islands between the US and Vancouver Island in Canada. The original plan was to go to Seattle for a couple of nights but, since my brother was so ill, I decided to fly to England to be with him and drove directly to Seattle-Tacoma airport.

The map, which is here, shows the scenic part in cyan. Luckily, the weather was partly cloudy early but got worse as the day progressed. I arrived at the airport in the early afternoon and booked a flight there.

On October 22, I flew back as my brother had left the hospital and seems well on the road to a full recovery. The flight arrived back in SEA-TAC airport in the afternoon so I decided to consider both days as day 30 of the trip. Since the time in the UK was 11:30 PM when the flight arrived I went straight to a nearby hotel. This part is shown in pink on the map. I plan to resume the trip from here.

  1. Excellent that your brother has recovered as far as he has and to have you back on your travels again.

  2. Dear Steve,

Though I got very busy at work with preparing Parent-Teacher Conferences, I found it strange no to get an email notification about your daily post. I thought it might be a computer glitch on my end as your post always arrives in my spam… Still, I started to wonder what had happened. It is only now while doing my “Steve Blog” weekend catch up that I understand what it meant.
I am so glad to know that your brother is out of danger and wish him a full recovery.

Very nice to read from you again! Safe travel and thank you so much for sharing this amazing trip!
