Today is pretty much a repeat of yesterday’s post except the drive was longer and I got pulled over by a State Trooper.
I drove from Minot, North Dakota to Shelby, Montana which is about 520 miles (map/video is here). Everything was good until I saw flashing lights in the rear-view mirror. I was only doing 8 mph over the limit so I thought he was on an emergency call and pulled over to let him pass. Unfortunately, he also pulled over behind me. It was a pleasant encounter and he let me off with a warning but did enter my information into the system and gave me a printed warning. Now I will have to keep close to speed limits otherwise the next time will probably not be so pleasant.
Apart from that, there was nothing remarkable on the journey. The car is running great (I was holding on tightly to the leg of a wooden table as I typed that) and is much more comfortable on a full day’s drive than my Honda Accord was. The scenery was somewhat more interesting than I had expected since, on parallel drives south of here, the plains were FLAT. At this latitude there were some hills and even a few nice views. Hopefully, I will not be doing any more 8 hour drives during this trip.
No photos again and the only green flag on the map is the pull-over spot which is really just for me to document the history that happened there (my second stop in over 30 years of driving in the US).
It seems your lead foot got the better of you. You’re lucky the trooper didn’t throw the book at you!
I’d always figured that up to 10% above the limit was pretty safe. I had set cruise control to 77 in a 70 limit but he clocked me at 78. I guess we all continue to learn 🙂
By my calculations based on the video footage you were actually doing about 4200 mph when you were pulled over.
Pretty close. Based on the video footage, the speed limit was 4,200 mph and I was going 4,620 mph.
This was roughly in a day what I took 2 days to do in 2014 (Dickinson ND to Wolf Bank MT to Cut Bank MT). I quite warmed to some of the small towns along Route 2, notably Chinook. I also liked the idea that I drove from Glasgow to Malta to Harlem to Zurich etc.
I also liked Chinook. Didn’t have much time to stop anywhere though.
