Last Full Day in Alaska

After two great weeks in Alaska it is almost time to head back to Canada. I will return briefly later in the week but this was my last full day here. Since this is about the halfway point of the trip, in terms of driving miles, I had made an appointment to have my car serviced and inspected this morning and then I got on the road to drive back to Tok, AK where I rejoin the Alaska Highway.

The weather started off gray and damp but improved as the day progressed which allowed me to enjoy some very scenic driving along part of the route. There is nothing outstanding to note as most of the views were in the distance but it is always nice to be able to see what’s out there. Tomorrow I will be making the return trip to Whitehorse and hoping for continued good weather instead of the rain, mist and low clouds I experienced on this section coming here.

The video offers the best representation of the day and, together with the map, can be found here.

I stopped several times to take photographs at roadside turnouts during the first part of the journey. This is a view of the Matanuska RiverGlenn Highway Matanudka River

  1. I love that shot above, regardless of the grey, misty day. How many cyclists have you seen on these roads?

    1. Thanks. Not a huge number of cyclists, probably because of the hilly terrain large distance between places, but always some and they are respected by the motorized traffic.
