Walking in Memphis

Road map and video (only from my hotel to the airport)

Today was our first day in Memphis. After picking up Rita and Christian at the airport we drove to our downtown condo rental, parked and walked around the Beale Street entertainment area getting our bearings.

One of my all-time favorite songs is Walking in Memphis by Marc Cohn and we lived this, walking on Beale Street and Union Avenue. We also visited the Memphis Rock ‘n Soul Museum which was an excellent introduction to the history and culture of music in the city.

After a gumbo lunch we checked in and, later, spent the evening at BB Kings Blues Club enjoying local cuisine and live music.

  1. Looks like you are having a rollicking time!! Rita beat you to this post with her texts sharing pics of all of you.

    1. That Rita, stealing my thunder. But there are many other readers who haven’t received her texts.

    1. Weather was not great yesterday but good today and for the rest of the week. Should have a good time.

    1. Tom I don’t know about Steve’s IPA but I am having a
Margarita. Wish you would join us sometime.

    2. I don’t know. The draft beers weren’t listed on the menu and the waitress recommended this one when I asked for an IPA. It was local and good enough for me to order more.

  2. Memphis was my second home for the first 20+ years of my life. My grandmother, like Elvis, was from Mississippi, and she’d take me to see the latest Elvis movies. I’ve been back several times in the past few years, including on a road trip with my son. The Civil Rights Museum is quite moving, and I hope you’ll send a report of your visit there. A warm hello to Rita and Christian.

    1. I visited the National Civil Rights Museum in 2017 and did a blog post about my thoughts then. We plan to go there tomorrow but I probably won’t write much this time. We are enjoying our time here.

    1. I agree, but can’t take any credit. I forgot to take my camera out of the car and the photos were provided by Rita and Christian
