Today was a mainly a rest and planning day in Taos.
In the morning I did a quick drive to the Wild Rivers Recreation Area about 40 miles north of Taos, where there are great overlooks of the Rio Grande and Red River gorges, followed by a quick visit to the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge northwest of Taos. The dash cam scenery was not great so I did not post the usual road video but the map below shows my route. My start/end point is the green marker, Wild Rivers is shown by the white marker near the north and the bridge is the white marker to the west.
In the afternoon I did laundry and planning for the rest of my trip.
The Rio Grande and Red River meet here, at Junta Point, in the Wild Rivers Recreation Area, The top image shows the gorge cut by the rivers and the lower image better shows the confluence. The Red River is on the left.
Two other views from Wild Rivers overlooks.
The Rio Grande Gorge Bridge was completed in 1965 and stands 600 feet above the river.
View looking south from the bridge.
Great shot of the bridge. What I remember most about crossing that bridge was the fact there were no more than a few people in site. Just about had the bridge and surroundings to myself. It was a bit windy up there as well.
The rest area near the bridge was pretty busy today and there were quite a few people taking photos from the bridge. The wind was still blowing well.
What an adventure you are having!
Love,
