I, therefore, planned the day with just one tourist target in mind so that I would have time to book hotels for the coming days this evening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The focus of the day was <em>Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area<\/em> which, based on photos I had seen, looked special. It was a relatively short drive of about 90 miles (145 km) from Red Lodge and did not disappoint.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I first drove to an overlook of where Bighorn Canyon and Devil Canyon meet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"760\" height=\"481\" src=\"http:\/\/relativerest.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/Bighorn-Canyon-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4445\" srcset=\"http:\/\/relativerest.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/Bighorn-Canyon-1.jpg 760w, http:\/\/relativerest.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/Bighorn-Canyon-1-300x190.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 760px) 100vw, 760px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">This is Bighorn Canyon which was created by the Bighorn river as it flows north. It is the largest tributary of the Yellowstone river and exposes 5 million years of geology in the canyon walls<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"760\" height=\"1013\" src=\"http:\/\/relativerest.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/Bighorn-Canyon-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4446\" srcset=\"http:\/\/relativerest.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/Bighorn-Canyon-2.jpg 760w, http:\/\/relativerest.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/Bighorn-Canyon-2-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 760px) 100vw, 760px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">This is a side canyon of the Bighorn Canyon, called Devil Canyon. At this point the canyon walls are about 1,000 feet (305 m) high and the river is 350 feet (105 m) wide.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>I then hiked the Ranger&#8217;s Delight and State Line trails from the trailhead south to the 45th parallel that divides Montana and Wyoming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"760\" height=\"424\" src=\"http:\/\/relativerest.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/Rangers-Delight-Trail.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4447\" srcset=\"http:\/\/relativerest.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/Rangers-Delight-Trail.jpg 760w, http:\/\/relativerest.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/Rangers-Delight-Trail-300x167.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 760px) 100vw, 760px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">There were limited views inside Bighorn Canyon from the trail but still pretty impressive.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"760\" height=\"444\" src=\"http:\/\/relativerest.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/State-Line-Trail.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4448\" srcset=\"http:\/\/relativerest.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/State-Line-Trail.jpg 760w, http:\/\/relativerest.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/State-Line-Trail-300x175.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 760px) 100vw, 760px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The State Line trail ends at the park road where you can step between Wyoming and Montana.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"http:\/\/relativerest.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/Bighorn-Canyon-Panorama-Full.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"760\" height=\"261\" src=\"http:\/\/relativerest.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/Bighorn-Canyon-Panorama-Small.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4449\" srcset=\"http:\/\/relativerest.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/Bighorn-Canyon-Panorama-Small.jpg 760w, http:\/\/relativerest.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/Bighorn-Canyon-Panorama-Small-300x103.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 760px) 100vw, 760px\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The canyon is so big and close at the overlook that I had to blend 4 photos together to get this more panoramic view.
